United States passport guide

Cuba visa for US citizens

American travellers need to answer two different questions: which Cuban entry document is required, and whether the journey is authorized under US rules. A Cuba eVisa addresses the first question. It does not approve a travel category, remove sanctions restrictions or make an ordinary vacation permissible under US law.

The quick answer

Can US citizens apply for a Cuba eVisa?

US ordinary passport holders are eligible for the Cuba eVisa application. US travel authorization is separate: travel for tourist activities is not permitted under the US Cuba sanctions rules.

Cuban eVisa eligibility and OFAC authorization

The Cuban application lists United States as an online visa nationality. OFAC separately regulates Cuba-related travel transactions by persons subject to US jurisdiction. General or specific authorizations have their own criteria; selecting a category is not enough if the itinerary does not meet those criteria.

Use the current OFAC Cuba FAQ before arranging the trip. Recent changes affect some travel authorizations, so older descriptions of educational exchanges or professional meetings may no longer reflect the rules in force.

Check bookings and keep travel records

US restrictions can affect accommodation reservations and transactions with listed Cuban entities. Review the applicable lists and your planned activities as part of the authorization check, separately from the visa form.

OFAC explains that authorized travellers must retain relevant records. Keep the travel certification, itinerary and receipts required for your category. Our application service supplies visa assistance; it does not evaluate or certify sanctions compliance.

Complete the Cuban entry-document steps

Once the permitted travel arrangements are established, prepare the US passport details and a reachable email address. Check whether the carrier already supplies a visa before using a separate service.

Review the resulting visa information and complete Cuba’s arrival declaration through the official portal. Keep the entry documents available offline. Travel through another country does not by itself resolve obligations that apply to a US person.

Plan the US authorization before the Cuban application

A US traveller may be able to select United States in Cuba's nationality field while still having an itinerary that does not satisfy US restrictions. Resolve the authorization question before purchasing an application service: identify the genuine purpose of the trip, check the current OFAC requirements and determine whether the actual activities meet them. Merely writing the name of a permitted category on a booking does not establish compliance.

Once that separate issue is resolved, prepare the Cuban passport-detail application. The service form does not review an OFAC license or certify that a proposed schedule is authorized. If the authorization is unclear, seek appropriate advice before treating a Cuban visa as the last obstacle to departure.

Keep the Cuban visa record separate from US compliance records

Create two clearly labelled sets of travel records. One should hold the Cuban application reference, issued visa information and arrival documents. The other should contain the materials relevant to your US travel authorization and the applicable recordkeeping requirements. An eVisa approval email belongs to the first set; it does not replace the second.

For example, a traveller who changes accommodation after arranging a trip should consider whether the change affects US restrictions as well as the practical booking. Review the current official guidance rather than assuming an earlier Cuban application review covers every later purchase or itinerary change.

Before you start

What to prepare for the online application

Use the US passport intended for this journey. The current form asks for the following details:

  • Passport nationality and passport number.
  • Surnames and given names as printed in the passport.
  • Date of birth and sex.
  • Email address, entered twice to confirm it.
  • Phone number, if you choose to provide one.

No passport scan or portrait upload is requested in the current service form. Insurance, return or onward travel and the arrival declaration are separate travel preparations; they are not upload fields in this application.

Cuba eVisa cost and application steps

Our online application service costs US$59 per traveller. This is our independent service price, not a quoted government consular fee. Read the service terms and refund policy before paying. You can also consult the official government application directly.

  1. Enter your passport details. The application opens with United States selected. Review names, passport number, birth date and email.
  2. Review the application and service price. Confirm the information and displayed total before continuing to the payment stage.
  3. Monitor the application. Keep your reference and use the application status page for an existing request. Allow time before departure; no approval deadline is guaranteed.
  4. Prepare the separate arrival declaration. After receiving the issued visa code, follow the official D’Viajeros portal instructions and save the arrival QR.

The tourist route is generally for one entry and an initial stay of up to 90 days, subject to the issued visa and current Cuban rules. Work, study and special passport circumstances need their own advice. Cuban authorities decide approval and admission.

US passport questions, answered

Does a Cuba eVisa let an American take a tourist vacation?

No. A Cuban entry visa does not authorize travel under US law. OFAC states that travel for tourist activities is not permitted; the journey must meet an applicable authorization.

Can US citizens avoid the rules by flying through Mexico?

A different departure airport does not by itself remove restrictions applying to persons subject to US jurisdiction. Check the applicable OFAC requirements for the entire journey.

Does this service choose an OFAC travel category for me?

No. This is independent Cuba visa application assistance. Establish your own lawful travel basis with the official guidance and obtain appropriate advice if your circumstances need it.

How much does this Cuba eVisa service cost?

Our online application service costs US$59 per traveller. This is the price of our independent service, not a quoted government consular fee. Check the total and service terms before paying.

What information does the online application ask for?

The form asks for passport nationality, passport number, surnames, given names, date of birth, sex, email and repeat email. Phone is optional. The current form does not ask for a passport scan or portrait upload.

Is D’Viajeros the same as a Cuba eVisa?

No. The eVisa is the visa application; D’Viajeros is Cuba’s separate arrival declaration. After receiving the visa code, use the official D’Viajeros portal to complete the arrival formalities in its permitted time window and save the resulting QR code.

Is approval or a processing deadline guaranteed?

No. Apply before your journey and allow time for review or corrections. Payment does not guarantee approval or admission. The Cuban authorities decide the visa outcome and entry permission.
