Germany passport guide

Cuba visa for German citizens

German travellers should plan Cuba with the Reisepass, not the Personalausweis used for many European trips. The online visa can be arranged before departure, while the arrival declaration is completed closer to travel. The official German guidance also helps distinguish an ordinary tourist visit from a longer stay or a different travel purpose.

The quick answer

Can German citizens apply for a Cuba eVisa?

Yes. German ordinary passport holders can apply for a Cuba tourist eVisa. The German Foreign Office states that an identity card is not accepted and travel documents must have at least six months of validity at entry.

Reisepass validity and the German identity card

The Auswärtiges Amt lists the passport as an accepted travel document and says the Personalausweis is not accepted for Cuban entry. Its guidance requires at least six months of remaining validity at arrival.

Review expiry before purchasing a service, particularly if renewal is already planned. Enter the new travel passport number after renewal rather than using an older passport simply because its details remain saved in a booking account.

Tourist stay, extensions and other travel purposes

German official guidance describes the tourist route for an initial stay of up to 90 days. A further extension is a separate Cuban-authority decision, not an entitlement included with the eVisa purchase.

For a long stay, work or another non-tourist purpose, contact the Cuban mission about the appropriate visa. An online tourist request does not replace the authorization required for that activity.

Name consistency and a later United States trip

Copy surname and given names from the passport fields. For a name containing an umlaut or another special character, follow the passport’s official spelling and seek clarification if the submission system requires a different representation; avoid inventing your own translation.

The German Foreign Office warns that a Cuba stay can affect later US entry using ESTA. Resolve the US visa question before booking a combined trip, and save both the Cuban visa information and arrival QR for the Cuba portion.

An identity card is not a shortcut for a German Cuba trip

A German traveller accustomed to journeys within Europe may have a Personalausweis ready while the passport is stored elsewhere. Bring the passport into the application review and check its number and validity before purchasing the service. The German Foreign Office's Cuba guidance distinguishes accepted passport documents from the identity card; the nationality selection alone does not make every German identity document suitable for entry.

If your document is temporary, renewed or otherwise different from a regular passport, consult the current document-specific guidance and your carrier. Do not enter an identity-card number into the passport-number field simply because both documents identify the same person.

Plan a longer German holiday without relying on an extension

Build the initial itinerary around the permission actually issued, rather than assuming a later extension will be automatic. The ordinary tourist route generally starts with up to 90 days, but extension decisions and procedures belong to the Cuban authorities. A longer booking or a second payment to this application service does not itself extend an existing stay.

For someone combining Cuba with a later US visit, review the separate US permission question before committing to the onward flights. Keep the Cuban application and any onward-country permission in distinct records, and revisit the itinerary if a connection or document changes after the original application.

Before you start

What to prepare for the online application

Use the German passport intended for this journey. The current form asks for the following details:

  • Passport nationality and passport number.
  • Surnames and given names as printed in the passport.
  • Date of birth and sex.
  • Email address, entered twice to confirm it.
  • Phone number, if you choose to provide one.

No passport scan or portrait upload is requested in the current service form. Insurance, return or onward travel and the arrival declaration are separate travel preparations; they are not upload fields in this application.

Cuba eVisa cost and application steps

Our online application service costs US$59 per traveller. This is our independent service price, not a quoted government consular fee. Read the service terms and refund policy before paying. You can also consult the official government application directly.

  1. Enter your passport details. The application opens with Germany selected. Review names, passport number, birth date and email.
  2. Review the application and service price. Confirm the information and displayed total before continuing to the payment stage.
  3. Monitor the application. Keep your reference and use the application status page for an existing request. Allow time before departure; no approval deadline is guaranteed.
  4. Prepare the separate arrival declaration. After receiving the issued visa code, follow the official D’Viajeros portal instructions and save the arrival QR.

The tourist route is generally for one entry and an initial stay of up to 90 days, subject to the issued visa and current Cuban rules. Work, study and special passport circumstances need their own advice. Cuban authorities decide approval and admission.

German passport questions, answered

Can Germans use a Personalausweis to enter Cuba?

The German Foreign Office says no. Use an accepted passport or travel document, and check the conditions for the particular document you hold.

Is another 90 days in Cuba automatically included?

No. An extension is a separate decision by the Cuban authorities. The online application service does not include or guarantee a stay extension.

Should I check ESTA before a Germany–Cuba–USA itinerary?

Yes. German official guidance says a Cuba stay can affect ESTA eligibility. Establish the US entry permission needed for the itinerary before departure.

How much does this Cuba eVisa service cost?

Our online application service costs US$59 per traveller. This is the price of our independent service, not a quoted government consular fee. Check the total and service terms before paying.

What information does the online application ask for?

The form asks for passport nationality, passport number, surnames, given names, date of birth, sex, email and repeat email. Phone is optional. The current form does not ask for a passport scan or portrait upload.

Is D’Viajeros the same as a Cuba eVisa?

No. The eVisa is the visa application; D’Viajeros is Cuba’s separate arrival declaration. After receiving the visa code, use the official D’Viajeros portal to complete the arrival formalities in its permitted time window and save the resulting QR code.

Is approval or a processing deadline guaranteed?

No. Apply before your journey and allow time for review or corrections. Payment does not guarantee approval or admission. The Cuban authorities decide the visa outcome and entry permission.
